Conflict Check (free add-on)
#Overview
Before a firm takes a case on, it must make sure it isn't already acting for, or against, someone involved.
Conflict Check searches a name across the firm's clients, their matters and every party the firm has recorded,
keeps a log of each check and its outcome, and flags new clients who were once on the other side.
It's free for every firm. Install it from Super Admin → Modules → Available add-ons (see
Add-on Modules). Firm staff need the Clients permission to use it.
#Running a check
- Open Add-ons → Conflict Check in the firm sidebar.
- Search for the prospective client and the other side: a person or company name, email, phone number or matter
number.
- Review the results:
- Recorded parties: people and companies on your matters. Opposing parties and opposing counsel are marked in
red, with a warning at the top.
- Clients: current and past clients with a matching name, email or phone.
- Matters: the matched clients' matters, or a matter whose number you typed.
- Under Record the outcome, choose Clear, Conflict or Waived (a note is required for Conflict and
Waived, for example "written consent from both clients"), then Save to log.
Matching is by word and ignores capitals and company endings such as Ltd, LLC or Inc: "Acme Ltd" finds
"ACME Corporation".
#The conflict log
Every recorded check is listed with the date, who ran it, what was searched, what was found at that time, the
outcome and the note. Filter by outcome, or Export CSV for your compliance file.
Needs review: when someone adds a client whose name matches a recorded opposing party or opposing counsel,
Conflict Check adds a Needs review entry to the log and shows a banner at the top of the page. Click Decide
on the entry to record the outcome.
#Parties
Conflict Check → Parties is the register the search looks through. Add everyone on a matter who isn't your
client:
| Field |
Notes |
| Name |
Person or company. |
| Role |
Opposing party, Opposing counsel, Related party, Witness or Other. Only opposing party and opposing counsel trigger the warning and the automatic flag. |
| Also known as |
Former names or trading names, comma separated. Searched too. |
| Matter |
Optional link to one of the firm's matters. |
| Notes |
Anything useful, e.g. "Defendant in contract dispute". |
Removing a party doesn't change past log entries.
#For the Super Admin
Super Admin → Add-ons → Conflict Check shows totals for the last 30 days: firms using it, checks, conflicts found
and parties recorded, with a row per firm. What firms search for is never shown.
#Notes
- Everything is stored per firm; firms never see each other's clients, parties or checks.
- Uninstalling keeps the data unless you choose to delete it.
